This is the 18th year for the ASSE Western Carolina Safety School in Hickory. We proudly host the School again at the Crowne Plaza. The theme for the School is “Safety Around the Clock” and will leave participants with good information on how to be safe at work and at home.

PRESENTERS:
Cherie Killian Berry, NC Commissioner of Labor
Commissioner Berry was elected to the statewide office of Commissioner of Labor in 2000 after serving eight years in the N.C. House of Representatives. Berry won re-election to a second four-year term in 2004 and to a third four-year term in 2008. Berry is the first elected female Labor Commissioner in North Carolina's history. She is a native of Catawba County and currently resides in Newton, N.C.
Stephen Jenkins, CSP, REM
Steve is a Certified Safety Professional and a Registered Environmental Manager. He is Environmental Health and Safety Manager at Engineered Sintered Components, Troutman, which is an NC OSHA SHARP Site. Also he received recognition as an Environmental Steward and is VP of Programs for the Western Carolina Chapter ASSE.
Session 1 – Sharon Poarch
Sharon Poarch is a former Law Enforcement Officer with the City of Lenoir and presently Director of the Shelter Home of Caldwell County
Session 2 – SimplexGrinnell Presenter on safe use of fire extinguishers
Session 3 – Vernon Jenkins
Vernon Jenkins represents Ligon Electric Supply Co. in Troutman, NC and is a distributer for Werner Ladders.
Session 4 – Dennis Parnell
Dennis Parnell is the Director of Safety for the NC Industrial Commission. Through his wit, he has not only taught but entertained audiences throughout NC.
The Hickory Crowne Plaza is located on L-R Blvd., Exit 125, off I-40. After exiting I-40, travel south and the Crowne Plaza is located on the left. The fee is $55.00 which will include materials, breaks, and buffet lunch.
